ICMR Call for Data Contribution on Gestational Weight Gain in India | Last Date 20 Feb 2026

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) invites researchers and institutions to contribute data to a national collaborative study on gestational weight gain among Indian women.

Gestational weight gain (GWG) plays a crucial role in the health of both mothers and their newborns. Inadequate or excessive weight gain during pregnancy may result in complications such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, low or high birth weight, and neonatal mortality.

Most existing GWG studies are based on non-Indian populations. These guidelines may not fully reflect the characteristics of Indian women. Currently, there is limited India-specific evidence on how gestational weight gain patterns influence maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Researchers from all states are welcome to apply. The last date for contribution is 20 February, 2026.

More Research Funding Opportunities

Objectives

To examine the observed patterns of gestational weight gain among Indian women and assess their association with key maternal outcomes and early neonatal outcomes.

To explore the relationship of gestational weight gain with additional maternal and neonatal health indicators.

Data Contribution Requirements

The contributing datasets must meet the following mandatory study criteria:

  • Prospective cohort study or randomized controlled trial
  • Data collected after 2010
  • The Sample size should be at least 300 pregnant women, and a data dictionary must be provided

Mandatory Data Elements (provided in the official notification) also need to be followed.

Participation Benefits

This is a collaborative scientific initiative. No funding is provided for data contribution. However, contributors will receive academic recognition through co-authorship in all resulting publications.

Contributors will retain full ownership of their data.
