The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is receiving applications for the International Climate Protection Fellowship 2026.
This Fellowship programme is designed to support postdocs and prospective leaders from researchers of non-European developing countries who are working in climate protection or climate-related resource conservation.
The fellowship is open to all, regardless of ethnic, cultural, or social background.
Interested candidates can apply online until 10 February 2026.

Eligibility
Apply for an International Climate Protection Fellowship if you are:
- Citizens of non-European developing or transition countries
- Engaged in climate protection or climate-related resource conservation
- Initial leadership experience and strong professional skills
- Very good command of English and/or German
How to apply?
- Identify and agree on a research project with a host in Germany.
- Submit your application online via the Humboldt Foundation portal by 10 February 2026.
- The documents required with the application are the Application form with personal details, a motivation letter, a research project, and two letters of recommendation.
Selection procedure
A selection committee comprised of researchers from academia and industry working in relevant fields will decide who will be awarded an International Climate Protection Fellowship. The peer review is conducted largely based on three selection criteria:
- academic and professional qualifications,
- leadership skills in the area of climate protection,
- quality and relevance of the research project to climate protection.
