The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, is receiving research proposals under the “Himalayan Bio-resource Mission Programme of the North Eastern Region (NER)”.
The Call aims to invite and support “translational and transformative proposals creating opportunities for increasing productivity in the region.
Researchers can submit their research proposals online only through the DBT eProMIS portal before 19 January 2026.
This call seeks research proposals that can:
- Enhance productivity and sustainability in the Himalayan region
- Promote utilization and conservation of bio-resources
- Integrate science with societal engagement
Project Duration
Initially, the project duration is up to 3 years. Further, this duration can be increased in special cases.
Research Areas
The proposal submitted must address one or more major verticals of the following research aspects:
- Vertical I: Plant and Agricultural Resources
- Vertical II: Insect and Animal Resources
- Vertical III: Medicinal and Aromatic Plants
- Vertical IV: Microbial Resources
- Vertical V: Environmental Sciences and eco-restoration
Who Can Apply?
Scientists / Researchers working in regular positions in recognized Indian Institutions. Researchers must have published research papers in SCI journals.

The shortlisting, screening, and selection of proposals will be done on:
- Eligibility criteria
- Scientific merit
- Competence and track record of the Principal Investigators
- DBT norms and guidelines
