ICSSR – JSPS (Japan) Joint Call for Research Proposals FY 2027

The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has officially announced the ICSSR-JSPS Joint Call for Research Proposals FY 2027.

This initiative between the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) aims to support Joint Seminars and Joint Research Projects.

This is a good opportunity for Indian researchers to collaborate with Japanese scholars on high-impact social science and humanities research projects.

Selected projects can receive funding of up to ₹14 lakh over two years, while joint seminars can receive support of up to ₹7 lakh.

Funding Details

Joint Research Projects

  • Maximum Projects Selected: 3
  • Duration: Up to 2 years
  • Project Start Date: 1 April 2027
  • Funding: Up to ₹7,00,000 per year
  • Total Funding: Up to ₹14,00,000 per project

Joint Seminars

  • Maximum Seminars Selected: 2
  • Duration: Up to 1 week
  • Seminar Period: Between 1 April 2027 and 31 March 2028
  • Funding: Up to ₹7,00,000 per seminar

Who Can Apply?

The applicants must be employed in a permanent research or academic position at a recognized research or academic institution. Applicant must hold a PhD and have an interest in high-quality research.

Important Deadline

Interested researchers must submit their proposals online by 3 September 2026.
