ANRF National Post Doctoral Fellowship (NPDF) 2026: Eligibility, Amount & How to Apply

Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has announced the details for the National Post Doctoral Fellowship on its official website.

The ANRF N-PDF is a prestigious research fellowship provided in India. This fellowship is designed to support Independent young researchers in frontier areas of science, engineering, and medicine.

The fellowship offers ₹80,000 per month, research grants, and mentorship for a two-year tenure.

Eligible researchers can submit their research proposals online before 17 February 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must fulfill the following conditions:

  • The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
  • He / She should hold a Ph.D./M.D./M.S degree from a recognized university.
  • Candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting the degree award are also eligible.
  • The upper age limit for the fellowship is 35 years. Age relaxation of 5 (five) years will be given to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged & Women candidates.
  • NPDF can be availed of only once by a candidate in his/her career.

Mentor Requirements

The applicant must identify a suitable Mentor under whom the proposed research would be carried out.

  • Mentor must hold a regular academic/research position in a recognized institution in India and hold a Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering.
  • Cannot supervise more than two ANRF-NPDF fellows at a time.
  • A candidate’s Ph.D. supervisor or co-supervisor cannot act as a mentor in the ANRF-NPDF.

How to Apply Online?

Applicants have to follow the steps for successful online submission of the application:

  1. Register on the ANRF portal
  2. Complete applicant profile (bio-data, photo, address, etc.)
  3. Ensure the mentor is also registered, and his / her profile is complete
  4. Submit research proposal details at the time of submission of the application: Project title (500 characters), Summary (3000 characters), Objectives (1500 characters), and Expected outcomes (1500 characters).
  5. Upload Work Plan & Methodology (PDF, max 3 pages, 10 MB)
