Call For Proposals on Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)

Researchers, scientists, and academic institutions from developing countries have an excellent opportunity to secure international research funding through the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The OPCW is offering grants of up to EUR 30,000 per project for innovative research in the peaceful applications of chemistry.

OPCW invites proposals in a wide range of chemistry-related fields, including:

1. Safe Destruction of Toxic Chemicals

Research on technologies for the destruction of toxic chemicals in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner.

2. Chemical Risk Management

Projects focused on risk assessment, handling, use, and storage of toxic chemicals.

3. Analytical Methods Development

Development and validation of analytical techniques for identifying and monitoring toxic chemicals.

4. Detection and Characterization Technologies

Research on detection methods and characterization techniques relevant to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

5. Medical Countermeasures

Studies related to medical treatment and prophylaxis for exposure to toxic chemicals.

6. Alternatives to Scheduled Chemicals

Development of safer alternatives to chemicals listed under the Convention for legitimate industrial and scientific applications.

7. Dual-Use Chemical Safety

Research aimed at mitigating safety and security risks associated with dual-use chemicals.

8. Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry

Projects exploring the opportunities and risks associated with the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in chemistry.

9. Other Peaceful Applications of Chemistry

Any innovative chemistry-related research that supports peaceful and beneficial applications.

Application Procedure

Applications must be endorsed by the National Authority or the Permanent Representation of the Member State.

The following documents are required:

  • (a) application form, duly completed and signed by the applicant and endorsed by the host institution and the National Authority or Permanent Representation of the Member State(s) concerned;
  • (b) curricula vitae of the applicant and of other team members; and
  • (c) a detailed project proposal.
