Call for applications for IGSTC Industrial Fellowships 2026 | Apply by 31 March 2026

The Government of India and the Government of Germany is providing a major opportunity to Indian PhD scholars and postdoctoral researchers to gain industrial research experience in Germany.

The Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC) has announced its Industrial Fellowships 2026, that is offering financial support of up to €2500 per month, airfare, and insurance.

IGSTC is a bilateral initiative of:

  • Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India
  • Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), Government of Germany

This fellowship allows Indian researchers to work with German industries and industrial research organisations.

Eligible researchers can apply by 31 March 2026.

Fellowship Categories

IGSTC offers two types of fellowships:

PhD Industrial Exposure Fellowship (PIEF)

Designed for early-stage PhD researchers.

Eligibility: Young researchers who have completed one year of PhD course in Science/Engineering from India and are below 28 yrs of age are eligible.

The duration of the Fellowship is up to six months.

Post Doctoral Industrial Fellowship (PDIF)

For fresh PhD graduates seeking industry exposure.

Eligibility: Fresh PhDs in Science/Engineering from Indian institutes/universities are eligible. The candidates should be below 35 years of age and within 2 years of completing their PhDs. Researchers not holding a permanent position or having a career break.

The duration of the Fellowship is up to twelve months.

Financial Support

IGSTC provides:

  • €1500/month for PIEF
  • €2500/month PDIF
  • Round-trip airfare + visa + travel insurance (up to €1000)
  • Health insurance (up to €100/month)

Documents Required

  • Consent Letter from German host organisation
  • Recommendation letter from an Indian mentor
  • NOC from Head of Institution (if employed)
  • Two reference letters (for unaffiliated PDIF applicants)
  • Proof of Date of Birth
  • Educational qualification documents
  • Proof of employment (if applicable)
