The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has announced a Call for Proposals on “Harnessing the Potential of Northeastern Mushrooms“.
This initiative aims to unlock the rich diversity of mushrooms found in India’s North Eastern Region (NER) and promote research that supports sustainable livelihoods, biotechnology innovation, and socio-economic development.

Objective of the Call
- Improve mushroom cultivation practices
- Develop value-added mushroom products
- Strengthen scientific research and economic opportunities in the North East Region
- Promote global recognition of Northeastern mushrooms
Proposed Areas of Research
Proposals are invited in the following areas:
- Advancement of Cultivation Technology, Substrate Innovation & Characterization, and Development of Spawn
- Nutraceuticals, Therapeutic, and Food Fortification
- Modern processing technologies for post-harvest management, including freeze drying, improved packaging, and storage systems.
Who can apply?
Scientists/Researchers working in regular positions in recognized Institutions. Investigators must have relevant research experiences on the proposed area of research. The relevant research experiences must be evidenced through high-quality research publications in the SCI-indexed journals.
