The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has invited applications for its Research Fellowship programmes for the January 2027 intake. The programme offers opportunities for researchers and scholars working in law, social sciences, public policy and allied disciplines.

Call for Applications
Applications are required for Graduate Research Fellowships, Postdoctoral Fellowships and University Research Fellowships.
1. Graduate Research Fellowship – 10 Positions
The Graduate Research Fellowship is intended for recent graduates and young scholars.
Eligibility
Applicants should have:
- A graduate degree in law; or
- A postgraduate degree in social sciences, public policy or an allied discipline.
Duration
The fellowship has a minimum duration of six months and a maximum duration of two years.
2. NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship – 5 Positions
NLSIU is offering up to five Postdoctoral Fellowships each academic year.
The fellowship is intended for recent PhD scholars who wish to develop their research towards publication.
Eligibility
Applicants must have a PhD in law, social sciences, public policy or an allied discipline awarded within the three years preceding the notification; or
Duration
The Postdoctoral Fellowship can support scholars for up to two years, subject to satisfactory progress.
Expected Research Outputs
Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to:
- Submit a draft book manuscript to a publisher;
- Publish one peer-reviewed article per year;
- Publish at least two short-form pieces per year for the NLS Scholarship Repository; and
- Teach one elective course per academic year, subject to approval by the Academic Review Committee.
3. University Research Fellowship – 5 Positions
NLSIU is also inviting applications for five University Research Fellowships.
The University Research Fellowship is aimed at supporting advanced research in areas including law, social sciences and public policy. Fellows are expected to spend their fellowship period on the NLSIU campus and contribute to the University’s research environment.
Fellowship Remuneration
The starting monthly remuneration mentioned in the current call is:
- Graduate Research Fellowship: ₹50,000 per month
- Postdoctoral Fellowship: ₹1,20,000 per month
- University Research Fellowship: ₹2,00,000 per month
