DBT Call for Proposals for Biotech Hubs in North Eastern Region, Apply by 30 March

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has announced a Call for Proposals to establish Biotech Hubs in the North Eastern Region (NER).

This initiative aims to strengthen biotechnology education, research, innovation, and skill development across the eight North Eastern states of India.

Eligible Research Institutions can submit their proposals by 30 March, 2026.

Facilities and Support

Each selected institute for the Biotech Hub will receive support under the following components:

  • Equipment
  • Grant for consumables, manpower, and national travel
  • Funding for research in novel areas of Biotechnology and Life Sciences relevant to the NER
  • Support for capacity-building activities

Who Can Apply?

Researchers working in regular positions in recognized Institutions of the North East Region of India and having relevant research experiences on the proposed area of research can submit proposals in this Call.

The applicants must have high-quality research publications in the SCI indexed journals.

The institution must possess the basic and relevant infrastructure necessary to achieve the objectives of the proposed project.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

  • Academic and research credentials of faculty
  • Availability of undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs
  • Existing laboratory infrastructure
  • Scientific merit relevant to NER
  • Institutional readiness and statutory compliance
