The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has announced the Second Cycle of its Research Initiatives for the academic year 2025–26.
The call focuses on policy-relevant, evidence-based, and action-oriented research to strengthen Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) across India.
NIDM invites research proposals from Indian universities and institutions under three major research initiatives:
- NIDM Doctoral Fellowship on Disaster Studies
- Research Project / Study on Disaster Management: Innovation & Action Research
- Best Thesis Ranking in Disaster Studies

Research Initiatives Open for Applications
1. NIDM Doctoral Fellowship Programme on Disaster Studies
This fellowship supports students enrolled in a full-time PhD programme in a UGC-recognised university or institution in any discipline working on Disaster Studies. The selected candidates will receive JRF/SRF as per UGC norms for up to 5 years
2. Research Project / Study on Disaster Management: Innovation & Action Research
This initiative supports faculty members and scientists undertaking applied research in disaster management.
Key Highlights
- Eligible applicants: Faculty members or scientists (regular or with a minimum of 8 years of experience)
- Role: Principal Investigator
- Funding: Up to ₹8 lakhs
- Project duration: Maximum 2 years
3. Best PhD Thesis Ranking in Disaster Studies
A national-level recognition platform for outstanding PhD research in Disaster Risk Reduction. The theme for the call for nominations for F.Y. 2025-26 is Landslide- Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery.
